Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving is one of the most popular water sports in the world. The concept of exploring the mysterious underwater world is a huge draw for many people. Exploring wrecks of boats, swimming with exotic fishes and even sharks is too tempting for many to resist. Getting certified is relatively easy, and even though the equipment is quite expensive to purchase there are many rental shops available, especially near places known for their excellent diving.
One of the very best places to dive in the world is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. You will see hundreds of species of tropical fish, as well as a variety of marine mammals. The reef itself is awe-inspiring. There are all kinds of beautiful places to stay and the weather is always perfect. If you haven't yet been certified or if you are a beginning diver, you can join expeditions offered by a number of companies. They will transport you to the Barrier Reef and teach you how to dive. If diving sounds like too much, then you might find snorkeling more to your liking. You can still experience the Great Barrier Reef, a natural phenomenon that all water and nature lovers should see. If you ever travel "Down Under", don't miss this beautiful, protected oasis.
Another wonderful reef, and the second largest in the world, is off the eastern coast of Mexico. It's in the warm waters of the Caribbean. You will see tropical fish, a living coral reef and possibly sea turtles. Sadly, the reef has been damaged by recent hurricanes. This area is a tourist's paradise and you can find a number of adventure tours to take you to the best locations.
The Mayan Riviera, as it's known, has resorts that are all-inclusive. If you stay in one of them, you will learn to dive in the pool, be certified, and be whisked off to fabulous diving locales by a professional guide. To avoid being scammed by
someone not really qualified, choose a resort with a solid reputation.
These aren't the only places to experience fantastic diving. Some divers prefer diving for shipwrecks than they do coral reefs. Florida and off the coast of Spain are two of the best regions for this activity.
A word of caution: if you are diving in an area where there is a coral reef, please do not touch the reef at all. It is very sensitive and can die at the slightest touch. Unfortunately it can take many years for a reef to regenerate itself so extra precautions must be taken.
